Suite 407 at 9540 Garland Road went dark when Be Home Soon closed on October 25, 2025. On August 18, 2026, the lights came back on, this time over 18-inch pizzas. Salisbury's Pizza is the first restaurant Will and Julie Salisbury have opened on their own. Will cooked and Julie worked as a sommelier at Monarch, Carbone and Bullion, and they chose to make their first place a casual neighborhood pizza shop in Casa Linda Plaza.
That suite is one of three spaces on this stretch of Garland Road changing hands this year. Each new tenant is moving into a spot someone else left, and each covers a different part of the day: dinner at Salisbury's, breakfast at a planned Norma's Cafe, and pastries and coffee at a planned Maman. As of October 4, only dinner is open.
Dinner Arrived First, and It Arrived Self-Built
The Salisburys skipped a wedding and decided against buying a house so they could put that money into the restaurant. "We're pretty much self-funded," Will Salisbury told D Magazine. "No designers, no general contractor. This has all been us." On social media, the couple estimates they saved about $250,000 by doing as much of the build-out as they could themselves. D Magazine's walkthrough of the opening is one of the more detailed looks at what it takes to start a small independent restaurant in Dallas right now, and it happens to be about a storefront Lochwood residents pass every week.
The hours are worth checking before you go. A July preview in the Advocate said Salisbury's would serve New York-style pies with in-house delivery, open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. The opening notice is more recent and lists Tuesday through Saturday, 3:30 to 9:30 p.m., for dine-in and takeout, with delivery marked "coming soon." So for now, Salisbury's is a dinner stop, closed Sundays and Mondays.
Early demand was strong. A first-week review praised the crust and sauce, called out the cheese slice and the sausage-and-rabe slice, and reported waits of about an hour for whole pies during the opening rush. Slices are the faster order on a busy night.
The Morning Pieces, and Where Each One Stands
The other two tenants would cover the hours Salisbury's doesn't. Neither has set an opening date, and the reporting on them has gaps.
| Space | Previous tenant | Incoming tenant | Status as of Oct. 4, 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 9540 Garland Rd., Ste. 407 | Be Home Soon, closed Oct. 25, 2025 | Salisbury's Pizza | Open since Aug. 18, 2026 |
| 9004 Garland Rd. | Dickey's Barbecue Pit, closed early 2026 | Norma's Cafe | Permits filed, no opening date announced |
| 1152 N. Buckner Blvd., Casa Linda Plaza | Schlotzsky's | Maman | "Grand opening coming soon," no date |
Norma's Cafe at 9004 Garland Road
Norma's is a 70-year-old breakfast and comfort-food restaurant that started in Oak Cliff. It has filed to move into the former Dickey's space, in the same strip as Bike Mart and Good Records. Dickey's had been there for about 20 years. According to the Advocate, Norma's has other North Texas locations, including one near The Shops at Park Lane, but this would be its only one squarely in East Dallas.
Two local outlets reported the paperwork differently in mid-August. The Dallas Observer reported on August 14 that the city portal showed a certificate of occupancy issued July 28, 2026. Four days later, the Advocate's report said the certificate was still in the inspection phase, with commercial work permits also filed. It added that Norma's had not announced the move on its Facebook or Instagram. Either way, no opening date had been published as of early October.
Maman at Casa Linda Plaza
Maman, the French cafe known for pastries and chocolate chip cookies, first said it would take the former Schlotzsky's space at 1152 N. Buckner Blvd. An Advocate story from February 2026 projected a November opening. Then the company changed the order. The Dallas Business Journal, in a report carried by WFAA, said Maman still planned the Casa Linda location but would open at Lakewood's Hillside Village first. The Hillside Village cafe opened in late April.
Maman's own page for the Casa Linda location now says "grand opening coming soon" and gives no date. Treat the February forecast as a past estimate, not a promise. Until Casa Linda opens, the closest Maman for a weekday pastry run is at Hillside Village.
What Fills the Gap This October Is Right Down the Road
Salisbury's is closed until mid-afternoon and the two morning tenants haven't opened, so much of this month's daytime and early-evening plans along Garland Road run through the Dallas Arboretum. Autumn at the Arboretum runs September 19 through November 1. This year's Pumpkin Village uses more than 100,000 pumpkins, gourds and squash under a "Harvest Hues" theme. The pumpkin houses draw on modern and contemporary artists, including Basquiat, Rothko, Louise Bourgeois, Mondrian, Escher and Pollock.
Several of the season's dated events run in the evening, which overlaps with Salisbury's hours. Here is the October calendar for this stretch of Garland Road:
- Wednesday, Oct. 7, 6 to 9 p.m. Pumpkins and Pints at the Arboretum.
- Saturday, Oct. 17, 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. A fall-themed storytime and craft at the Lochwood Branch Library, 11221 Lochwood Blvd., ahead of the branch's afternoon Fall Fest, sponsored in part by the Lochwood Branch Library Friends. The volunteer sign-up for the morning session already shows full.
- Tuesday, Oct. 20, 5:30 to 8 p.m. Pumpkins After Hours, a sensory-friendly evening at the Arboretum.
- Friday, Oct. 23, 5:30 to 8 p.m. BOO-tanical Trick or Treat at the Arboretum.
Two of these fall on nights Salisbury's is open. Pumpkins After Hours ends at 8 p.m. on a Tuesday, and BOO-tanical Trick or Treat ends at 8 p.m. on a Friday, both with time left before the kitchen closes at 9:30. The Arboretum's Autumn page has tickets and details for each evening.
The walking route between the Arboretum and Casa Linda is also whole again. Dallas Water Utilities closed the White Rock Lake Trail between E. Lawther Drive and Winsted Drive this summer to grout about 2,800 feet of an abandoned 36-inch wastewater main, after a sinkhole appeared next to the trail earlier in the year. For the Love of the Lake records the trail as reopened on August 20, 2026.
The Order Things Open In
For now, the new Garland Road day starts in the afternoon. Salisbury's opens at 3:30 p.m. on weekdays except Mondays, and the Arboretum covers the hours around it through November 1. When Norma's opens at 9004 Garland and Maman opens on Buckner, the morning end of the day will fill in, both in storefronts that had gone empty. Neither tenant has posted a date, so the useful thing to watch is the Norma's social accounts and the "coming soon" line on Maman's Casa Linda page.
